Boris Johnson and the vote of (no?) confidence

Chart Date: 6 June 2022

Background

As you may or may not know, things have gone beyond the standard level of tutting and a vote of no confidence in Boris Johnson (the Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party) was held this evening, the result announced 9pm 06/06/2022. The news it would be held was announced shortly before 9am the morning of the same day, which is when I cast the chart.

Interpretation

Boris Johnson is the Prime Minister, contextually the ‘king’. He’s Mars, Lord 10 which is an immediate sign of him staying on – he’s dignified and applying to the cusp of House 10 – literally ‘returning to his house’ as Prime Minister. He’s got a lot of agency on that cusp, too.

By reception, he’s sick and tired of Venus – his opponents. This could be seen as the opposition Labour Party, but in context is more likely the rebel MPs who have initiated the no confidence vote, especially as they are also dignified and angular, so have power while hating him.

The Part of Resignation and Dismissal sits at around 14° Sagittarius, making Boris’ potential ‘firing’ Jupiter at 4° Aries. Dismissal ‘wants’ him – wants him gone, but it’s well under his power and Mars separates from it. The risk has passed.

As an interesting note, both Cusp 10 and Mars are within a degree of the fixed star Algenib – part of the constellation Pegasus. There’s an interesting story about Bellerophan who, after riding Pegasus to a victory in battle, tries to fly to the Gods and is smacked down. Time will tell if Boris has overreached. He loves a Greek myth so it would be fitting, at least.

Algenib has played out – see https://cunning-man.co.uk/will-the-government-call-an-early-general-election/(opens in a new tab) for more details.

Verdict

Boris will win and remain Prime Minister.

Result

Boris won the vote – announced shortly after 9pm, 6th June 2022. 211 Conservative MPs voted to keep him, and 148 voted to get rid of him. This may seem like a massive disparity, but 148 voting against a sitting Prime Minister is heavy stuff, and the last time a vote like this happened – to then Prime Minister Theresa May, she left the job within 6 months of surviving the vote.
